ILOILO CITY, Feb. 15 (PIA)--- Provincial Health Officer Patrica Grace Trabado urged the public to continue the cleaning of surroundings to get rid of the mosquito vectors that thrive in stagnant waters, as 25 dengue cases in Iloilo province was recorded from January to February 12, this year.

Trabado said that the Iloilo Provincial Health Office record shows that the municipality of Dumangas leads with six dengue cases followed by Oton- 3, Passi City-2,Tigbauan-2, Tubungan -2 and one each for the municipalities of Cabatuan, Calinog, Carles, Guimbal, Igbaras, Lemery, Miag-ao, San Enrique, San Joaquin and San Miguel.

The dengue virus is transmitted from one person to another by an infected Aedes aegypti, a day-biting mosquito that thrives in clean and stagnant water.

“We urged our Municipal Health Officers to continue monitoring and likewise urged the community to continue the four “S” practice,” Trabado said.

The “four S campaign” against dengue calls on the people to search and destroy possible breeding grounds of dengue-carrying mosquitoes, encourages people to seek immediate consultation and impose self-protection by refraining from wearing black clothes and using long sleeves, and saying no to indiscriminate fogging.

Trabado underscored the importance of maintaining clean surroundings “in order to defeat dengue”.

These dengue carriers breed in stagnant water that usually accumulate in used tires, empty cans and bottles, and gutters.

The Provincial Health Officer reminded the public not to hold their guard down against dengue, because dengue is endemic in Iloilo, and year-round the province has cases of dengue especially now that we are experiencing the climate change which brings rain even when it is supposed to be sunny days.(JCM/TWV/PIA)
